The Boiler Room Sauna Sheffield

The Boiler Room was Sheffield's only gay and bisexual sauna, and the sole venue of its kind anywhere in South Yorkshire. Sited at 208 Savile Street East in Attercliffe, a short trip from the city centre, the building had served the city's gay community for decades — most recently as Bronx Sauna, before being taken over and significantly refurbished by the team behind The Boiler Room Brighton. Spread across two floors, it paired a spa and social area — sauna, steam room, a large central jacuzzi, and a licensed bar serving hot and cold food — with private cabins and cruising spaces upstairs. The Boiler Room was best known for its weekly event programme, with three Naked Days a week and late-night Friday parties including CumUnion and Bears Night, and was widely regarded as a welcoming, inclusive space for the city's LGBTQ+ community.

With its closure in April 2026, Sheffield — and the whole of South Yorkshire — is now without a dedicated gay sauna. For anyone who relied on The Boiler Room, the nearest full-scale alternative is Steam Complex in Leeds: a substantially larger venue in Armley, roughly forty minutes up the M1 from Sheffield and easily reached from Rotherham, Doncaster, Barnsley, and Chesterfield. Steam Complex runs a daily programme of Naked Days and themed event nights across multiple floors, and is now the region's default gay sauna for men across South Yorkshire and the Peak District.

The Boiler Room is the only gay sauna in Sheffield and the only one in South Yorkshire.
