About
Sweat Sauna – Carlisle
Sweat Sauna is a sauna for gay and bisexual men at Atlas Works, Nelson Street, Carlisle, CA2 5NB. Open six days a week (closed Tuesdays) from 11am to 6pm, it offers a sauna cabin, steam room, hot tub, video rooms, darkroom, and sling. The venue is the only gay sauna in Cumbria.
Entry is £14 (students £6 with valid ID), and multi-day passes are available for visitors staying in the area. Towels are provided with entry. The venue accepts all major credit and debit cards. Strictly over-18s — ID may be required.
Sweat Sauna is the only gay sauna in Cumbria and the most northerly in England. Carlisle sits right on the border with Scotland, which gives the venue an unusually wide pull — men searching for a gay sauna in Carlisle, a gay sauna in Cumbria, or a gay sauna near Carlisle are all arriving at the same place because there is genuinely nothing else for a very long distance in any direction. Penrith is about 20 minutes south on the M6, while Dumfries, just across the border in Scotland, is roughly 35 minutes via the A75.
The Lake District towns — Keswick, Windermere, Kendal — are between 40 minutes and an hour south, making Sweat Sauna the closest venue for anyone visiting or living in the Lakes. To the east, Hexham and the Northumberland towns are about 40 minutes along the A69, with Newcastle (Number 52 Sauna) over an hour away. The venue sits on Nelson Street, a quiet side road near Carlisle city centre, with on-street parking available nearby. For men across the top of England and the Scottish Borders, Sweat Sauna fills a gap that no other venue covers.
