Number 52 Sauna Newcastle

Number 52 Sauna is Newcastle’s only gay sauna, located at 50-52 Scotswood Road in the city’s Pink Triangle, a short walk from Central Station. Spread across three floors, the recently refurbished venue has steam and sauna facilities, a jacuzzi, licensed bar, private rooms for hire, and regular themed events. Number 52 is open seven days a week and runs continuously every weekend — opening Friday morning and not closing until Sunday evening. Membership is free for all visitors.

Number 52 is the only gay sauna in the North East of England. That covers a vast area — from the Scottish border down to Teesside, and from the Pennines to the coast — and the venue on Scotswood Road serves all of it. Sunderland is about 20 minutes away by Metro or car, Durham around 25 minutes by train, Gateshead is just across the river, and Middlesbrough is roughly an hour’s drive or train ride south. Visitors from Darlington, Hartlepool, and even Carlisle (around 90 minutes west along the Tyne Valley Line) make the journey because there is simply nowhere else closer.

The venue’s position in Newcastle’s Pink Triangle, a few minutes’ walk from Central Station, makes it as accessible as a gay sauna in Newcastle city centre can be. LNER services from London take under three hours, Edinburgh is 90 minutes north, and the Tyne and Wear Metro connects directly from Newcastle Airport in 25 minutes. Free parking at the rear of the building keeps things discreet for those driving in from across the region. For anyone searching for a gay sauna in Newcastle, the North East, or near Sunderland or Durham, Number 52 is where you’re heading.

Reviews

Number 52 is widely regarded as the busiest gay sauna in the North East, with visitors regularly highlighting the welcoming staff, the recently refurbished facilities, and the lively weekend atmosphere.

Staff are consistently praised for a professional, pressure-free reception. First-time visitors in particular mention the warm orientation on arrival — being shown around and having the venue explained clearly, which makes a real difference for newcomers to a three-floor venue.

Recent visitor feedback following the refurbishment highlights a modern, well-maintained environment. Cleanliness across the wet areas, cabins, and social spaces is a recurring positive.

The 24-hour continuous weekend sessions — running from Friday morning through to Sunday evening — are a frequent highlight in reviews. Visitors note that the extended hours attract a diverse mix of people across different time slots, with the late-night and overnight periods generating the liveliest atmosphere.

The licensed bar, open until 3am at weekends, is regularly mentioned as a genuine social draw. Combined with the cinema room and themed event nights, it creates an experience that goes beyond a standard sauna visit.
