Plastic Ivy Sauna Dewsbury

Plastic Ivy is a gay and bisexual men’s sauna at 33 Leeds Road in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire — widely regarded as Yorkshire’s busiest. The venue spans two floors with a 5-man spa pool, 8-man sauna cabin, 10-man steam room, private cabins, darkrooms, glory holes, a cinema room, and a licensed café. Open six days a week (closed Tuesdays), 12:00–22:00, with last entry at 21:00. Entry starts from £12.50 in the evenings, and the £5 lifetime membership requires no ID and no real name. Dewsbury train station is an eight-minute walk away with direct trains from Leeds taking eleven minutes, and the M62 (junction 28) and M1 (junction 40) are both a five-minute drive.

Plastic Ivy welcomes trans men and non-binary people who are male-presenting. The venue has a dedicated page on its website setting out its inclusion policy.

Dewsbury sits right in the middle of West Yorkshire, and Plastic Ivy’s Leeds Road location makes it one of the best-connected gay saunas in the region. The M62 is a five-minute drive north and the M1 five minutes east, putting the venue within easy reach of a string of towns and cities in every direction. Huddersfield is about 15 minutes west, Wakefield around 10 minutes south, Bradford roughly 20 minutes north-west, and Barnsley about 25 minutes. Leeds city centre is around 20 minutes by car or a direct train from Dewsbury station, which is an eight-minute walk from the front door.

For men searching for a gay sauna in Dewsbury, a gay sauna near Huddersfield, or a gay sauna near Wakefield, Plastic Ivy is the nearest option. It’s the only gay sauna in the Kirklees district, and its position between the larger cities gives it a catchment that’s broader than the Dewsbury postcode might suggest. The £12.50 evening entry, lifetime £5 membership, and free same-day pass-outs make it a practical choice for repeat visitors who’d rather not make the trip into Leeds or Manchester every time.

Your First Visit

Membership is required but takes under a minute — just turn up, pay the £5 lifetime fee, and give any name you like. No ID or real name needed. The venue operates a Challenge 25 policy, so bring photo ID if you look under 25. Cash and card accepted (including contactless and Apple/Android Pay).

On arrival, you’ll get a locker key and towel. Staff will offer a guided tour of the two-floor layout — take it, especially if it’s your first time at any sauna. You can wear trunks or shorts under your towel if you prefer. The venue has a zero-tolerance policy on alcohol and drugs — you won’t be served alcohol and visibly drunk visitors will be refused entry.

The busiest times are early afternoon from opening and again from 6pm. If you’d rather ease in when it’s quieter, arriving mid-afternoon (around 3–4pm) or after 8pm tends to be calmer.

Directions

Plastic Ivy is at 33 Leeds Road (A653), Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, WF12 7BB — just outside the town centre. The M62 (junction 28) and M1 (junction 40) are both a five-minute drive. Dewsbury train and bus stations are an eight-minute walk away.

From the M62 eastbound or westbound, leave at junction 28 (signed for Leeds, Dewsbury, and Leeds/Bradford Airport via the A653). Take the A653 towards Dewsbury — the venue is on Leeds Road on the right, about three miles from the junction, just before the town centre. From the M1, leave at junction 40 at Shaw Cross and follow signs towards Dewsbury. From Leeds city centre, the A653 runs directly to Dewsbury — about twenty minutes.

For sat-nav, use WF12 7BB or What3Words [///lush.shovels.match](https://w3w.co/lush.shovels.match). The building is a discreet industrial unit at number 33 with no visible signage indicating the nature of the venue. The entrance is a green door at the front — just walk in during opening hours.

There is no on-site car park. Do not park directly outside the building or on Charles Street opposite (narrow road, emergency access). The best option is Battye Street, running parallel behind the venue — parts have unrestricted free parking, and the steep grass verge provides a short walking route directly to the entrance. If street parking is unavailable, Cliffe Street council car park (WF13 1RD) is a three-minute walk, with over 400 spaces — free all day on Sundays, from £1 for three hours on other days.

Dewsbury station is an eight-minute walk away, on the main trans-Pennine line between Leeds and Manchester via Huddersfield. Direct trains from Leeds take roughly eleven minutes, running three to four times per hour on Northern Trains and TransPennine Express. From Huddersfield, trains run approximately every twenty minutes. From Manchester, TransPennine Express runs direct services taking around one hour.

For first-time visitors arriving by train, the venue suggests using the taxi rank at Dewsbury station rather than walking — the fare to 33 Leeds Road is approximately £3.

Dewsbury bus station on Aldams Road is an eight-minute walk. The nearest bus stop to the venue is Leeds Road Tesco, served by the 202 and 203 routes (Leeds to Huddersfield, operated by Arriva Yorkshire). Route planner: [wymetro.com](https://www.wymetro.com/plan-a-journey/)

Reviews

Plastic Ivy holds a 4.5 out of 5 star rating on Google, and visitor feedback consistently highlights the welcoming atmosphere, the value for money, and the staff as the venue’s defining strengths.

The staff are the most consistently praised feature across reviews. First-time visitors regularly note being made to feel at ease on arrival, with staff offering a guided tour of the facilities and explaining how things work. For a venue type where many guests arrive nervous and unsure of what to expect, this is frequently cited as a reason for returning.

Visitors describe Plastic Ivy as a relaxed, pressure-free environment — a calmer alternative to larger city-centre saunas. The venue’s compact size is regularly reframed as a positive, creating a more community-focused atmosphere where the emphasis is on approachability rather than scale.

Cleanliness is cited as a clear strength across multiple review platforms. Visitors note that the facilities are well-maintained and that staff are visibly active in cleaning throughout the day.

With evening entry at £12.50, a £5 lifetime membership, and no renewal fees, Plastic Ivy is one of the most affordable gay saunas in the North of England. Reviewers frequently describe it as a sensible, accessible option where the entry price matches what you get.
