The Locker Room – Kennington, London

The Locker Room is London’s longest-established gay and bisexual sauna, located at 6 Cleaver Street in Kennington, South London (SE11 4DP). A compact, two-floor venue with capacity for around 60 visitors, it’s a seven-minute walk from Kennington Underground station on the Northern line. Open seven days a week from 11am to 11pm, no membership is required.

Facilities include a 20-man sauna, a 16-man steam room, private relaxation cabins, a cinema, dark rooms, and a lounge with free tea, coffee, and filtered water. The venue runs monthly naked sessions and weekly themed events including Bear Night and Lads for Dads. Entry starts from £10 on Monday evenings.

The Locker Room sits on Cleaver Street in Kennington, making it the go-to gay sauna for South London. Kennington station on the Northern line is a six-minute walk away, and the Northern line’s split at Kennington means the venue is reachable without changing from both the Charing Cross branch (Waterloo, West End) and the Bank branch (London Bridge, the City).

Elephant & Castle, Lambeth North, and Vauxhall are all within a 10 to 15-minute walk, connecting the Bakerloo, Victoria, and National Rail lines too. For anyone searching for a gay sauna in Kennington or a gay sauna in South London, this is the local option — a compact, two-floor venue with a loyal crowd drawn from Kennington, Vauxhall, Brixton, Camberwell, and the surrounding SE postcodes.

Your First Visit

No membership is required — just turn up and pay at the door. On arrival you’ll get a locker key and towel. The venue is on a quiet residential street with no prominent signage — look for number 6 on Cleaver Street.

If it’s your first visit on a naked session day (1st Thursday, 3rd Wednesday, or last Saturday of the month), be aware that towels cannot be worn. If you’d prefer a standard session for your first visit, any other day works.

The Monday evening session (from 6pm, £10 entry) is a good option for first-timers on a budget — it’s popular and tends to have a sociable atmosphere.

Reviews

The Locker Room is one of London’s smaller, independently run gay saunas, and the quality that comes through most consistently in visitor feedback is the welcoming, no-attitude atmosphere.

Staff are one of the venue’s strongest assets. Visitors regularly name individual staff members and describe them as genuinely friendly. The “no-attitude” environment extends to the crowd — reviewers consistently note the lack of pretension and the welcoming reception regardless of age, body type, or experience level.

Several visitors specifically describe The Locker Room as a comfortable first sauna for men who are curious, newly out, or visiting a gay sauna for the first time. The compact size and relaxed pace create a less intimidating environment than London’s larger venues.

The venue is consistently described as clean. Staff clean regularly throughout the day, and free towels, tea, coffee, and water are included with entry.
