About
Steamworks Edinburgh: Edinburgh’s Only Gay Sauna
Steamworks is Edinburgh’s only gay sauna, at 5 Broughton Market in the city’s Pink Triangle — just off Broughton Street and a ten-minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley station. Run by the same team as Planet Bar, it occupies a multi-level building with a steam room, dry sauna, hot tub, private cabins, darkroom, video room, and play areas. The venue is open seven days a week from 11am to 11pm, with themed sessions including Naked Wednesdays and Darker Nights on Fridays and Saturdays. No membership required. Entry from £16.
Steamworks is the only gay sauna in Edinburgh and the only one on the east side of Scotland. Located at Broughton Market — steps from the bars on Broughton Street and Edinburgh’s established Pink Triangle — it sits right in the city centre, within a 10-minute walk of Edinburgh Waverley station. For anyone searching for a gay sauna in Edinburgh, a gay sauna in Edinburgh city centre, or a gay sauna in Scotland, Steamworks is the venue on this side of the country.
Edinburgh’s position as Scotland’s capital and one of Europe’s most visited cities gives Steamworks a visitor profile unlike most UK gay saunas. Alongside a strong local following from across Edinburgh, the Lothians, and Fife, the venue draws men travelling from Dundee (around 75 minutes by car or train), Stirling (about an hour), and the Scottish Borders. During the Edinburgh Festival and Pride, it serves an international crowd too — search queries in Spanish and other languages consistently appear in the venue’s traffic data. Glasgow is roughly 45 minutes west by train, and Scotland’s two cities each have their own dedicated venue, so men on the east coast don’t need to cross the Central Belt to find what they’re looking for.
