What visitors say
Reviews
Nero’s Sauna has established itself quickly since reopening in September 2024, with visitor feedback highlighting the relaxed atmosphere, clean facilities, and inclusive events programme as its defining strengths.
Visitors consistently describe Nero’s as a calm, pressure-free environment — a quieter alternative to the larger city-centre Manchester venues. The crowd is a mix of local lads and mature men from across Greater Manchester, creating a friendly, unpretentious community feel. First-time visitors and bi-curious men regularly note feeling comfortable and well looked after.
The jacuzzi, plunge pool, and sauna are frequently praised for being well-maintained. The cruising maze, private cabins, and dungeon are described as thoughtfully designed — practical rather than sprawling, with everything accessible without being overwhelming.
The events programme is a significant draw. Biphoria Thursdays — open to all genders and sexualities — and T-Girl Tuesdays broaden the venue’s appeal beyond the traditional gay sauna demographic. The Free Visit Sunday offer is regularly mentioned as strong value.

About
Nero’s Sauna – Bury
Nero’s Sauna is a members-only gay sauna on Whitelegge Street in Bury, Greater Manchester, about 1.5 miles north of the town centre in the Woolfold area. Managed by Adult Leisure Group (who also operate Steam Complex in Leeds and Acqua Sauna in Blackpool), the site has operated as a gay sauna since 1998 and reopened under new management on 6 September 2024.
Facilities include a jacuzzi, plunge pool, traditional dry sauna, cruising maze, private cabins, group rooms, and a fully equipped dungeon. The venue caters to gay, bisexual, and curious men in a calm, pressure-free environment.
Every visit includes unlimited hot drinks, free towel changes, condoms and lubricant, free Wi-Fi, and same-day pass-outs at no extra charge. Open seven days a week, with Biphoria Thursdays running until midnight. There is a private car park at the rear of the building.
Neros occupies a distinct patch of Greater Manchester. Bury sits about 20 minutes north of Manchester city centre, and the venue on Whitelegge Street draws men from across the northern half of the conurbation and beyond. Bolton is around 15 minutes west by car, Rochdale about 15 minutes east, and Rossendale roughly 20 minutes north up the M66. Visitors from Burnley and Accrington (around 30 minutes) make the trip regularly too, as Neros is the nearest gay sauna for much of East Lancashire.
The Woolfold location, just off the A56, keeps it accessible without being in the middle of town — and the private car park at the rear means arrival and departure stay discreet. For men searching for a gay sauna in Bury or a gay sauna near Bolton, Neros is the closest option on this side of Greater Manchester. It’s a different proposition to the city-centre venue 20 minutes south — smaller, calmer, and built around a community of regulars who value the low-key atmosphere.
